We love our beige, grey, black, white pieces. They’re the foundation of our basic wardrobe. On the other hand, we love to play with bright colors: pink, blue, neon green. It adds sparks to our looks! Why not mix the best of both worlds? Add a touch of color to your essential pieces to brighten up your complexion, make strangers on the street smile or just have fun. Go bold!

COLD OR WARM COMPLEXION?

We often hear that it’s important to determine what is our skin tone. But what exactly for? A professional stylist will immediately notice when people are wearing flattering colours for their skin tone. With these few tricks, it’ll be easy for you to pick the right colours for you!

HOW TO FIND OUT?

To determine your skin tone, you actually need to look at your undertones. The surface colour of your skin can change with sun exposure or your health condition, but your undertones will always stay the same.

Here’s how to do it.

Think of how your skin reacts to sun exposure. People who tan easily usually have a warm skin tone. People who burn quickly usually have a cool skin tone. However, there are exceptions. Sometimes, people with dark skin that doesn't burn easily have cool undertones, too.

Another way to find out is to use a plain white sheet of paper. Hold it up to your face and compare your skin to it. If your skin looks yellowish or greenish, you have a warm skin tone. If your skin looks pink or blue, you have a cool skin tone. If your skin looks gray, you have a neutral skin tone. When in doubt, ask your stylist!

The last option is to hold a pure white sheet of paper or garment up to your face. Then, do the same thing with off-white paper or piece of clothing. Which hue makes you look more radiant? If it’s the pure white, you have a warm skin tone. If it’s the off-white, you have a cool skin tone. Both fit you? You probably have a neutral skin tone.

Now, let’s pick the right colors for your skin tone. To flatter a warm skin tone, wear warm colours. For a cool skin tone, opt for cool colours. And everything fits neutral skin tone – lucky you!

Here are a couple of ideas to start you off!
