This month, we invite you to discover Katia Hanine, a fashioniasta, a blogger, but also a biology teacher and content and communications manager for Addition Elle! That’s a lot of hats to wear, and she does it wonderfully!

Have we piqued your interest? Read on to learn more!

First, we’d like to know about the name of your blog. Lapiz of luxury, what does it mean?

Actually, it’s very funny! As long as I can remember, I’ve always mixed high and lows, luxury with adorable fashion and always loved a good deal. One night, my sister and I were talking and as a confidence ended up on the line ''Lapiz of Luxury'' and it just stuck!

Are you working full time on your blog or do you also have another job?

I have a very eclectic work history. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in microbiology and immunology and a master's degree in education. I had the chance to juggle the two passions I’ve had for as long as I can remember: fashion and teaching biology. I’ve ventured in the world of teaching as a Biology College teacher and had the opportunity of growing my blog over the last 7 years from which I also had the chance of working as a full time blogger for almost a year (in 2015). Following this path, I’ve ended up in the world of marketing and fashion as the Content and Communications Manager for Addition Elle, an amazing plus-size fashion brand that occupies an amazing stand in the body diversity movement and conveys a very strong message to women, something I truly believe in.

What summer trend are you most excited about?

I think the Summer Trend I am most excited about is linen and neutral colours. I absolutely love mixing textures in my outfits and linen (when it’s done correctly) is a very classic piece that can live in your closet for a long time. I am also very excited about oversized menswear inspired blazers over feminine dresses with white sneakers, it’s very street style inspired and I adore the juxtaposition of the feminine with the menswear.

We’re seeing more body diversity lately in the fashion industry. Why is it important to you?

It’s important to talk about real women, which is every body type, every ethnicity, every hair colour, etc.! It’s very important to me because I’ve always been a curvier girl and I’ve always been super proud of it and super confident about it and that comes from my parents. My parents raised my sister and I to be strong, confident women and to always be proud of what we had and who we are and always stand up for ourselves! It’s very important to show the younger generation that perfect does not exist, perfect is how you feel about yourself. Body diversity is not only showing curvier women and neglecting skinnier women, it’s talking about every type of women and I think that’s something that is forgotten by a lot of people in their messaging and the way they speak to their communities. It’s not about the plus size community vs the rest, it’s about all women standing together as one united front and loving each other and that’s what I’m all about. I don’t classify myself in any category because I don’t think such a thing should exist. At the end of the day, it’s important that you feel good about yourself, about your body and about what you stand for!
