What do Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga, the Olsen twins and Elise Lachance, founder of MFMK, have in common? They’re not very tall. As you might have noticed, measuring only 5'2, Elise is the shortest member of our team, but this doesn’t stop her from wearing basically whatever she feels like! Today, she shares with you ten fashion tips that suit shorter girls!

1- MONOCHROME OUTFITS

Monochrome outfits are ideal to work on the verticality of your silhouette and create super harmonious looks. Moreover, a plain jumpsuit is an excellent base to create a monochrome look really easily!

2- HIGH RISES

If you want your legs to look longer, high rises are just what you need.  And don’t forget: balance is key! Wear a shorter top to really highlight your legs!

3- VERTICAL STRIPES

We often hear that vertical stripes are ideal to look thinner. In fact, it's mainly because they create an elongating illusion. That’s why they’re also very effective to look a bit taller!

4- SMALL PRINTS

If you’re rather small, pay attention to the size of the prints you wear to make sure they’re adapted to your height. In short -pun intended-, if you’re small, choose small prints. Elementary…!

5- FITTED CLOTHES

Wide garments aren’t recommended for petite frames since they easily overwhelm shorter figures. They accentuate the horizontality of the silhouette while what you want is to emphasize its verticality. Obviously, we know that loose cuts are trendy and it would be quite drastic to recommend that you ban them from your closet. Just be sure to balance loose pieces with more fitted ones.

6- PIECES THAT SHOW A BIT OF SKIN

Showing a little skin attracts light and tends to lengthen the silhouette while accentuating its verticality. You can go for a V-neck, wear a shorter skirt or roll your sleeves, but don’t hesitate to show some skin!

7- LONG EMPIRE WAIST DRESSES

Okay, we just said that showing a little skin could help you look taller, but as you know, at MFMK, we think rules are meant to be broken. So, no you don’t have to give up on long dresses! Just choose one with a fitted high waist. Slits will also suit you!

8- STRUCTURED BLAZERS

You really can’t go wrong with a short and fitted blazer. For the office, but also to wear causally, with a pair of jeans, a structured blazer is always a winning choice!

9- HEELS

It pretty much goes without saying, but heels certainly deserve to be part of our list. However, be careful not to overcompensate with overly high heels that could ruin your look if you find it difficult to walk with them. Go for shoes that feel good and don’t hesitate to swap stilettos for block heels for more comfort.

10- SMALL ACCESSORIES

Oversize glasses, tote bags, big hats... Large accessories might make you look like you’re trying to hide! Smaller accessories are much more adapted to your smaller figure.

As you can see, there’s a lot to choose from! However, from tweaking hemlines to adjusting the sleeves, every petite lady should have a go-to tailor. So find a good one and have it on speed dial!
