Looking at the latest fashion arrivals, you might feel like you’ve fallen into a giant Prismacolor box. Don’t panic, you're not experiencing visual hallucinations. You’re simply witnessing the comeback of the colour-block trend!

This trend was a huge hit in the 60s and the 80s, and as you probably know, trends are cyclical. Let’s hope you’re ready for a big burst of colours because the colourful wave hits hard this year! But what exactly is the colour-block trend, and how to wear it? You’re about to find out!

IS IT BETTER TO CHOOSE SIMILAR SHADES?

Not at all! In fact, colour-blocking means that you pair different colours to make a bold statement. For a punchy effect, choose complementary colours (two opposite colours on the colour wheel). For a little less intensity, you can also choose similar shades or analogous colours (colours that sit next to each other on the wheel). For a balanced look composed of three colours, use the triad technique. This colour scheme in which three colours are equally spaced from each other creates harmonious results every time. However, be careful not to mix more than three colours if you want to stay in control!

PS: A colour wheel is the perfect reference tool to mix colours like a pro!

IS USING NEUTRAL COLOURS CHEATING?

Yes, in theory, but we don’t care! White is ideal to soften bold colour combinations. For example, a white t-shirt is the perfect way to balance a purple and mustard outfit!

You can also create colour-block looks with soft colours. Moreover, right now, pastel colour-block outfits are super trendy!

WHAT ABOUT PATTERNS?

Honestly, we’re not too fond of floral prints in bold colour-block looks. However, geometric patterns fit perfectly with this linear trend! Psst... Did you recognize Anick's fun look? :)

ARE COLOUR-BLOCK GARMENTS PART OF THE TREND?

Definitely! Fun colour-block garments are ideal to add some colour to your wardrobe!

Retro athletic tops with contrasting stripes are a huge hit right now. Lots of them have refreshing and unexpected shades.

AND WHAT ABOUT ACCESSORIES?

Punchy accessories are ideal to add one more colour to a colour-block look and even bring it to the next level. For example, a colourful belt adds a pop of colour and also highlights the waist!

You can also match your accessories to one colour that’s already part of your outfit!
