MITSOU & MILA
When we learned that Mitsou was coming to the photo shoot with her daughter Mila, we were simply delighted! Mila is full of energy. It’s amazing to see a young girl that’s so candid and totally able to let loose! So here’s a cute and elegant look that superbly underlines this precious mother-daughter relationship!
Would you usually wear this kind of outfit?
This dress looks amazing! However, I wouldn’t wear it to do the groceries. I would save it for a special occasion or at least for something a little out of the ordinary! In everyday life, when I pick out my clothes, I’m a disciple of the principle of least effort.
It takes a lot of guts to start a pop career at such a young age, like you did. Would you let your daughters do the same thing?
Yes, I would, but I would probably encourage them to get a little bit more schooling than I did… Nowadays, there are fabulous schools where you can study almost anything!
Why is it so important to have a higher education level before starting a career like yours?
I am an autodidact, but I started young so I learned the ropes really early. It’s okay, but it’s not the safest way. For me, a higher level of education is like a solid foundation that helps to get off to the right start. If my daughters wanted to have a career like mine, they could, but I really think that a good schooling education would do a lot for them. For example, I think that if you want to be a musician, learning classical music will be a definite plus no matter what you do after. Lady Gaga is a good example. She received a formal training. Afterwards, she decided to do pop music and she’s incredible because she has such a solid training and an incredible technique. What I want is to offer a great educational background to my daughters, no matter their field of study, so their life can be as rich as possible!
Do you think that you still have as much ambition as you did when you were eighteen?
No… Definitely not! You can’t buy ambition. The level of ambition and energy that you have as a teenager turning into an adult is very unique. During this period of time, you have so many things to prove. You want to show the world that your generation is unique and that it’s the best! After failing a couple of times, most people tend to lose some of their ambition. Somehow, it doesn’t seem to have happened with my collaborator, Léa Clermont Dion. She has so much ambition that I think she hasn’t hit the wall yet. Anyhow… I love it and we take advantage of that great energy! It’s also a matter of timing. There are some periods in life where we feel more combative and others where we feel more down. I think we need to accept it!
What’s your secret to stay strong when things get more difficult?
I personally think that having it easy doesn’t necessarily make you stronger. We need to overcome defeats and become able to fight for ourselves, especially during childhood. We often talk about bullying and respecting others. It’s really important but it’s also essential to learn to defend yourself. We often say to ignore those who are mean and not to give them attention, but it’s also important to show kids to defend their interests. It will help them a lot!
During the photo shoot, we have witness a really special complicity between Mila and Mitsou. One thing is clear, the apple does not fall far from the tree. Mila has all the charisma and taste for fashion of her mom!
Unforttunatly, the dresses that Mitsou and Mila wore on the shoot are no longer available. Here's a selection of this boho and natural inspired look.
